Three Off The Tee: Monty and Progress
threeoffthetee.blogspot.com via @mbedboro &bull Aug 31, 2010I'm off to Silvermere Golf Club in Cobham tomorrow to watch Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomery give a clinic. Having digested his recent wildcard picks and rumours regarding his personal life the braveheart inside me is tempted to ask him about both. The pragmatic in me recognises that an ejection by… Full Story »

No Ryder Cup for York's Simon Dyson (From Gazette & Herald)
www.gazetteherald.co.uk via @gazetteherald &bull Aug 31, 2010After narrowly missing out on winning the Johnnie Walker Championship in Gleneagles to automatically secure his place in the Europe team to attempt to win back the trophy from the USA in Celtic Manor in five weeks, Dyson was then relying on a remote chance of being one of European captain Colin Montgomerie's three wildcard picks. The Canadian Press: Ryder Cup is more of a contest between best tours, not best players
www.google.com via @LHayes1098 &bull Aug 30, 2010PARAMUS, N.J. If it seems outrageous that the No. 9 player in the world would not be part of the Ryder Cup, then consider the European team that first crushed the United States in this popular exhibition. Colin Montgomerie called it an "embarrassment of riches" that his three picks did not include Justin Rose and Paul Casey, who was at No. 9 when the choices were made. And that the likes of Henrik Stenson,… Full Story »

Jack Sargeant's wafflings | Wafflings on news, and sport! General geekery.
jacksargeant.wordpress.com via @sargeant_j &bull Aug 30, 2010Yesterday Europe's Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie named his three wildcard picks for the event which starts in 31 days time. Monty selected Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari as the three men to complete his line-up. They join automatic qualifiers Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson. However has Monty got it right? To a certain extent I'd say yes, although I disagree with the selection of Padraig Harrington, and it was a bold move to select Luke Donald to say the least. Edoardo Molinari… Full Story »

Padraig's Ryder Cup Selection A Triumph Of Branding!
Geoff Shackelford Golf Blog &bull Aug 30, 2010
I poured through most of the reactions to Monty's Ryder Cup selections of Harrington, Donald and Molinari and a theme developed: Padraig is a nice, famous, legendary guy who has been stinking it up lately; Paul Casey was arrogant for sticking to an American-based schedule. No one is refuting that Monty had a brutal predicament, one apparently made more complicated by a young, former U.S. Amateur-winning Italian capturing his second tournament of the year on the final weekend of Ryder Cup qualifying at the very course where the captain asked players to show up. Not sure what was complicated about… Full Story »

Ryder Cup 2010: Paul Casey's omission proves hard to justify for Colin Montgomerie - Telegraph
bit.ly via @tiontadream &bull Aug 29, 2010Flicking through his black folder like a well-fed civil servant, Montgomerie announced his three wild-card picks and then managed to avoid giving a straight answer to almost every question. Even Tiger Woods would have cheered such equivocation and Kofi Annan would have hung a garland round Monty's neck. Paul Casey may well like to hang something else around Montgomerie's neck.
